The proposed Senate budget released May 30 restores funding to state historic sites, according to this report from
WRAL-TV. The sites, including Vance Birthplace in Weaverville, have been the target of potential state budget cuts during this year's budget process through the N.C. House and Senate. Gov. Bev Perdue will have to sign an agreed-upon budget from the General Assembly into law later this summer.
