Room makeover contest

Release from Michael Dale Painting

Michael Dale Painting & Services is holding a “Room Makeover Contest” during the Western Carolina Home Show being held at the Asheville Civic Center on March 19, 20 and 21. The winner will get to select a room in their home to be repaired, prepped and have the walls, ceiling and trim painted using Sherwin Williams Duration paint in the colors of their choice.

Everyone has at least one room in their home that they would like to change. Maybe you have a baby on the way and need to transform a bedroom into a nursery. It could be that your teenager has outgrown their “kid room”. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to have a faux finish in your living room. Or, you are haunted by the “Pepto Bismol” color of your bathroom.

If you are tired of any room in your home, all you have to do is enter this room makeover contest and Michael Dale Painting & Services will turn that room into a space that you can be proud of.

In order to enter the room makeover contest, you need to fill out an entry form and submit it to Michael Dale Painting & Services at their booth (C-8) at the Western Carolina Home Show. Their booth will be located just inside the main entrance of the Civic Center.

The winner will be chosen based on their answer to the question: “Why does this room need a makeover?”

You can obtain an entry form including the rules at their web site: www.mdalepainting.com. Entry forms will also be available for you to fill out at the Western Carolina Home Show. For more information about the Home Show, visit www.wcpshows.com/homeshow.html

Woodfin police chief recognizes efforts

Woodfin Police Chief Brett Holloman recognized the efforts of Det. David Plyler and Officer Jonathan Ammons for their work in two recent arrests that captured accused child predators. Both Plyler and Ammons worked with Computer Crimes Unit in the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office to help on the cases. Holloman called their efforts "classic police work."

Weaverville to apply for FEMA grant

Weaverville Town Manager Mike Morgan hopes to receive about $54,000 from FEMA in to help cover cleanup costs related to the Dec. 19, 2009, snow storm that dumped more than a foot of snow on North Buncombe.

The town is also applying for a FEMA Hazardous Mitigation Grant in the amount of $724,000for three emergency generations to back up the Ivy River Treatment Plant. Power was lost at the plant during the snowstorm, and while there is a generator to back up the building itself, there is no backup source to power the treatment. Weaverville can borrow water from Asheville, which does have back generators for its treatment plant, during such times.

Town council approved a $13,000 budget amendment to cover costs related to the preparation of the grant application.

Business news

* IHOP opened this week after months of anticipation. Another dining option in North Buncombe is always welcomed.
* Next door to the new IHOP is an open space. We've heard a copier business may be setting up shop in the future.
* At Northridge Commons, a video game business will likely be filling the open spot next to U.S. Cellular. HomeTrust will be building its Northridge location as well some time in the future. It is not yet known for sure whether Main Street location will remain or not.
* Speaking of Main Street, it is currently completely booked with the recent openings of Dry Ridge Family Medicine and Appalachian Animal Hospital.
* AdPro in Woodfin, next to Glenda Kay's salon, closed up shop in the last week.

What else is out there? Got any business news?
