Piles of papers

The offices of the Weaverville Police Department in the basement of Weaverville Town Hall has files and files of paperwork. When Councilman Gene Knoefel asked Weaverville Police Chief Greg Stephens about whether the town could electronically scan in the papers, Stephens said the department keeps the orginial copies of records for court proceedings that require them. Sometimes, evidence is needed from several years ago; thus, the department has to keep the papers piling up until the courts allow printouts.
